An end to an awesome trip

Athens is a sprawling city, full of ancient ruins and modern buildings.  We heard that the Placa area is a fun place to go,  full of sidewalk restaurants and shops.  We bypassed all of these outdoor restaurants serving huge lunches and I was perfectly happy with a gyro to munch on while checking out the Agora and a few other sites.

The evening was our last of our trip and we found a place on a rooftop with a view of the Parthenon....

Our last day before catching a plane home was spent at the new Acropolis Museum.  This was built over the ruins of ancient streets, which you can view over a "glass sidewalk" as you enter the museum.  It is awesome!

Inside is an amazing collection of artifacts, statues, and friezes from the Acropolis area.  The top floor is laid out like the Parthenon and you can walk "around" it, viewing pieces that have been salvaged.  It is quite amazing.  No photos are allowed, though. OK...I did sneak one...

This was an amazing trip, full of history, learning about different cultures and languages, and also a time to relax by the sea.  We left with many memories and hope that someday maybe we will be able to return to explore even more.  But there is a lot of world to see.

Thanks for the great pictures and wonderful descriptions. You'll have to keep up the blog after you get back. I've enjoyed reading about your adventures. Kathy

Kathy...this will probably be retired once I get home. I will wrap it up with our last Paris adventures, but then it is back to MN and time to put this together into photo albums!
